How to help your students grow outside your classroom
Spending just a few hours at the school desk is far too little to make a substantial progress in learning a foreign language. In order to make learning effective, a fair proportion of work needs to be done at home. What is more, I strongly believe that exercises must not be passive, on the contrary, they need to be productive. In my presentation I will focus on developing listening, writing and speaking abilities outside a school classroom. Firstly, I will demonstrate how to effectively use TV series as homework and how to prepare effective and time-saving handouts.
Secondly, I will show writing activities, which will require students to use interesting authentic materials which will boost their engagement. After that, I will concentrate on speaking ability and present free Internet tools which will allow students to develop this skill on their own. Finally, as homework achievement is closely related to assessment, I will demonstrate a few ideas on how to implement formative feedback as a vital element of homework which will help to keep students motivated.
