When the law goes pop in the Legal English classroom
The workshop attempts at exploiting the didactic potential of reel justice, i.e. law-related television and cinematic productions, in the context of teaching Legal English as a foreign language. Starting with the assumption that students’ motivation and engagement are assumed to benefit from familiarity with law-related pop culture, as well as from the entertainment dimension of authentic clips, various tasks will be presented that advance linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge of Legal English learners. Reel justice will be investigated in terms of knowledge communication within a didactic setting. As will be seen, knowledge communication in the Legal English classroom can be understood as knowledge mediation but it can also relate to the notion of knowledge popularization.
